....and our little Christmas letter :)
Hello
Friends and Family!
It
has probably been TWO long years since you received a Christmas letter/card
from The Schurman Family, I am SO sorry about that! This letter will be FULL of lots of Schurman
news, and you will be caught up in no time!
2013
was an amazing year for us. We welcomed
our third (and final!) child into our family.
Asher David Schurman was born
on January 4, 2013. In true “third
child” fashion he is easy going (like his father), loud (like his mama), and
loved (by everyone!). He was born, and
basically had no choice but to get on board with all the shenanigans that go on
around our house. At 11 months old he
has been walking for over a month, eats almost anything we put in front of him,
loves to snuggle with his mom and wrestle with Dad, and counts his brother and
sister as his absolute best friends in the whole world.
Our
seven year old Mackenzie James
started first grade this fall, and by some stroke of pure luck has the world’s
best teacher. She is basically the adult
female version of Mack, easily distracted, needs to always be moving, and loves
to be outside. The best part about grade
one is that Mackenzie is totally and completely head over heels in love with
his teacher and in love with learning.
He is an amazing reader, loves numbers (like his father), and according
to his report card “a kind boy who is a leader in our classroom”. Mack started playing minor basketball this
fall and has been loving every minute, he is still not super competitive, but
we know that will come with age, and right now we are just enjoying the little
guy he is becoming. Mackenzie was born
to be a big brother, he is an amazing helper to me, has a great deal of
patience and understanding with his sister, and can distract baby Asher in two
seconds flat!
Matea
Riley Anne is almost five years old! She is super tall, has beautiful blond hair,
and a diva like attitude like none other I have ever seen. Matea is enjoying her Pre-K classroom again
this year, we decided to give her some extra time to just enjoy being a little
girl, and pick up on a few school routines that she is having some trouble
with. Matea’s speech is starting to
develop more and more each day, and Bob and I are so ecstatic when she comes up
with a new phrase or word that we haven’t heard before. Communication with Matea might look a little
different than a typical four year old, but I cannot even explain how much I
love our version of conversations with her, it is amazing. School is hard for Matea but she does her
very best every single day, and we are so proud of her. Matea and Asher…..well Matea tolerates
Asher…and he LOVES her. When Asher is
upset and Matea thinks no one is looking, she loves him too, just a little but
she loves him too.
Bob
is still working at the City of Red Deer, in the Parks and Recreation
Department. He has gained quite a bit
more responsibility over the last two years, and is enjoying the leadership
role he is taking in his department.
Once again, Bob is overseeing the Senior Men’s Basketball Association,
and is having a fun time promoting and helping grow basketball in Central
Alberta.
For
myself, I have really enjoyed this past year on maternity leave. It has given me the opportunity to spend time
with and just enjoy our little people.
This fall we made the decision that I would continue on at home, and not
return to my teaching position after Christmas.
I was in love with just about everything at the school that I taught at,
but right now I need to be spending the majority of my with the M&M’s and
Asher. Teaching will always be there,
and trust me with three little Schurman’s running around staying at home is
like TWO full time jobs!
Our
family blog gets updated quite regularly with pictures and stories about all
the craziness that is US!

you want to get updated with more than JUST the yearly Christmas letter….check
